University Of Miami Law Professor Killed In Traffic Crash

A University of Miami law professor was killed Sunday in a traffic crash.

Alan C. Swan, a professor at UM since 1972, died in the crash on U.S. Highway 1 near Southwest 16th Avenue at about 10 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Swan and his wife were traveling north on U.S. 1 when a motorcycle crashed into their car, causing the vehicle to overturn. It was unclear whether Swan or his wife was driving the car.

Swan’s wife suffered critical injuries. She remained hospitalized Monday.

“The law school and the entire University of Miami community is saddened by the news,” university spokeswoman Kathy Hernandez said. “He was at the university for many years and touched the lives of many students. He’ll be sorely missed by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
